Trackball Problems in Blackberry Curve

By Andrea Griffith, eHow Contributor
updated: October 5, 2010

You may start to experience problems while using the trackball on your BlackBerry Curve. The problems most commonly associated with the trackball is that the ball will stick while you're trying to move it, or the ball rolls but the cursor will not move on the screen. These problems typically happen for two reasons: the trackball is broken or it's dirty. You can do a few different things to fix your trackball and get it working properly again.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Can of compressed air
  • Antimicrobial hand wipes
  • Small flat-head screwdriver
  • New trackball

Cleaning the Trackball

  • Power down your phone by pressing and holding down the "Hang Up/Power" button for three seconds.
  • Hold the nozzle of the can of compressed air directly above the trackball. Press down the air can's button to shoot a blast of air into the area around the trackball. Move the can around the trackball in a circular motion while you're blasting the air. This will help remove any debris, dirt or even sand that is stuck behind the ball.
  • Place an antimicrobial hand wipe over the ball. Press the trackball down using your finger over the hand wipe. Roll the ball around to thoroughly clean the ball with the wipe.
  • Repeat Step 2 to thoroughly dry the ball. Turn your phone back on, and use your trackball as normal. If cleaning the ball doesn't solve your problem, then your ball may be broken. Skip to Section 2 to replace the trackball.

If this doesn't work, please come to Cyberion ASAP before there is further damage to your phone!
